Forty weeks

Counted from the first day of the last menstrual period. Sizes are published averages. Your week belongs to your scan and your clinician, not to a fruit.

1. Pregnancy

The first trimester runs, roughly, through week 13. Hormones rearrange sleep, smell, and appetite. Folic acid is a common recommendation from before conception through these weeks — the dose is a clinician’s, not a forum’s. Bleeding or one-sided pain needs a same-day call. Many pregnancies are quiet; quiet is not a problem by itself.

2. Pregnancy

The second trimester is often the stretch when energy returns and movement becomes something you can learn. An anatomy scan is commonly offered around 18–22 weeks. It is a screen, not a certificate. Travel, work, and exercise are usually discussed individually; the rule is the one your own care gives you, not a general page.

3. Pregnancy

The third trimester is weight, breath, and a movement pattern you already know. From about 28 weeks, a lasting drop in movement is a same-day call, including at night. Swollen ankles can be ordinary; sudden swelling of the face or hands, a severe headache, or a visual change is not. A due date is the middle of a range.

If this pregnancy is not continuing, you still belong in careful hands. A clinician should guide the next hours.

Sizes and dates are averages. Feeding and sleep notes follow widely published public-health guidance, including World Health Organization infant-feeding advice and back-to-sleep recommendations. They are not a protocol for your hospital.
